Toronto comedy venues

Toronto's comedy runs on three very different operations: Comedy Bar, with stages in Bloor West and on the Danforth putting on well over a hundred shows a month; Yuk Yuk's, the long-running downtown stand-up club; and The Second City, the sketch and improv theatre that launched Catherine O'Hara, Eugene Levy and Mike Myers.

Comedy Bar Bloor

945 Bloor St W · Bloor West

  • Several stages, so there are often three or four shows on the same night.
  • Snacks and drinks are served. It's a short walk from Ossington station.
  • Late-night shows start around 10 PM on most weekends.
  • Prices on the listings are in Canadian dollars.

  • Studio shows almost every night cost C$13 and feature newer comics.
  • Touring headliners usually play two shows a night on Fridays and Saturdays.
  • Student showcases from the Comedy Bar school are listed, and the classes themselves aren't.

The Second City Toronto

1 York St, 3rd Floor · Harbourfront

  • In Toronto since 1973; this is its fourth home, opened in late 2022 overlooking Love Park.
  • Three stages: the 244-seat Mainstage for the signature revue, the 170-seat Theatre '73, and the John Candy Box Theatre for student and indie shows.
  • Shows mix scripted sketches, songs and improv built from audience suggestions.
  • Weekend afternoon family shows are a rare all-ages comedy option downtown.
  • Eat beforehand at The Bentwood, the on-site restaurant, or at one of three bars.
